Children’s Museum brings SNOW to the Rio Grande Valley
Oh, baby it will be cold outside!

Brownsville, Tx – December 17, 2014. The Children’s Museum of Brownsville will be hosting the 2nd Annual “Real Snow Day” event on Saturday, December 20, 2014, from 11 am to 3 pm in Dean Porter Park. The Children’s Museum strives to bring new experiences and adventures to the children in the community who might not have opportunities like these. The Children’s Museum will be bringing in real snow for the children to play in on Saturday.

“Our goal is to open up the world to the children of the Rio Grande Valley through experiences.” stated Felipe Peña, Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of Brownsville. “As the poorest city in the United States, unfortunately these children are not able to explore the world on their own. That is why we strive to bring the world to them.”

The Rio Grande Valley has only experienced snow once in the past 100 years, so children of the Rio Grande Valley are not typically aware of what real snow is like. In 2004, Brownsville experienced a rare Christmas morning snow storm. Many of the children of the Rio Grande Valley either weren’t alive to see the snow or were too young to remember and have no memory of the snow. The Children’s Museum is already fielding questions daily about snow conditions such as – will the snow be cold or wet? However, according to museum staff one thing is for sure – it will be cold outside!

The Museum has noted that the community has been extremely supportive including sponsorships from Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation, Whataburger and Sharkey’s Hair It Is. Many additional community partners will be attending to interact with the public including Chili’s, Lowe’s, City of Brownsville, Luke Fruia Motors, Peter Piper Pizza, Pronto Insurance, HEB, Texas Roadhouse and Chick-fil-A.
